Atlantic Ave – Biography.
Formed over three years ago, Atlantic Avenue started as a small classified ad in the“Hot Press” music newspaper like most teenage pipedreams.
Three Dublin Lads, Derek O Neill (Bass) Shane Noble (Guitar)and Bob Wade (Vocals & Percussion) who met at a gig in Dublin shared a passion for 80’s type AOR music and finally decided to do something other than talk about forming a band they did. It took a tough year of gigging for practically nothing and paying back personal bank loans to put a sound system and transport on the road. Nothing could rain on their enthusiasm though, and venues began to offer return dates in multiples. The most notable characteristic about this band is clearly the set of songs they perform. Some would say a very brave selection of classic 80’s tunes with infectious choruses. A comment very often heard at any gig would be “God I love this song, I haven’t heard it in ages!” because the band was originally modelled to play in smaller venues a no effort was made to bring in additional musicians. Instead the band cleverly employed the services of Applecore Studios who were capable of writing and producing amazing backing tracks at their purpose built studio.
There are hundreds of bands touring the country at present using backing tracks downloaded from the internet and unfortunately they often sound like “Supermarket Music”. The band asked Billy to incorporate live keyboard playing with live drumming and hence why they sound more like a six piece than a three piece band. It is fair to say that literally thousands of pounds were spent at this stage of the bands construction but easily the wisest investment to date. Add to this, their unique talent for complicated 3 way vocal harmony and an excellent ability to “work the crowd”. It’s quite understandable why they are doing the bigger gigs more associated with bigger bands. The beauty of this of course, is the easy placement in venues of all sizes.
Don’t take this Biography at face value, go see the band, and phone current venues for their opinion. eg, Barcode (Dublin 3), The Old Mill Dublin 24), The Sky Venue (Portlaoise) but to name a few!!!
